Sabaa University, in coordination and cooperation with the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center and the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, held a awareness campaign this morning, Tuesday, November 2, 2021, to highlight the risks of thalassemia and hereditary hemolytic anemias, alongside a voluntary blood donation campaign benefiting patients.
During the event, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders Care Center, delivered an educational speech about hereditary blood diseases, their modes of transmission, and methods of prevention. He emphasized the vital role of the community in raising awareness about these chronic diseases and highlighted the leading role of universities, colleges, and schools in the success of such campaigns. Dr. Ismail also noted that many individuals carry thalassemia without being aware of it, stressing the importance of early medical screening—specifically premarital testing—as the only means to protect future generations from the risk of hereditary blood disorders.
Deputy University President Dr. Mohammed Qais underscored the importance of blood donation and standing in solidarity with this afflicted group.
Several students and community members responded positively to the blood donation campaign, urging others to participate in such initiatives, as many patients are in urgent need of blood.
On his part, Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati, General Manager of the Society, expressed his sincere thanks and deep gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this humanitarian campaign, especially the administration and staff of Sabaa University.
