Sanaa University Awards Master’s Degree with Distinction to Researcher Ammar Mohammed Rasheed
On Tuesday, 3 Jumada Al-Akhirah 1444 AH (corresponding to December 27, 2022), Sanaa University awarded researcher Ammar Mohammed Rasheed a Master’s degree with distinction for his thesis entitled:
“Seroprevalence of Hepatitis C Virus Among Beta-Thalassemia Patients Receiving Frequent Blood Transfusions at the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders – Sanaa, Yemen.”
The study found that 6.5% of the 200 patients examined between February 2019 and February 2020 were infected with the Hepatitis C virus. This was primarily attributed to random blood transfusions conducted outside specialized healthcare centers.
The research concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which was the necessity of conducting regular screening for hepatitis viruses, particularly Hepatitis C, to ensure the safety of transfused blood.
At the end of the defense, the evaluation committee expressed its sincere appreciation to the researcher and the Yemeni Society for their cooperation, encouraging further research and studies on these critical genetic blood disorders.
Representing the society at the defense were Mr. Haron Al-Emad and Dr. Shehab Al-Salahi.
