In line with ongoing awareness campaigns, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders participated in the artistic event held at the College of Administrative and Human Sciences, University of Science and Technology. The event featured a variety of artistic and speech segments.
Representing the society, Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati, the Society’s Director, delivered a speech expressing his gratitude to everyone who supports the society in organizing awareness activities about premarital screening aimed at reducing thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders. He emphasized the serious threat these diseases pose to many children, who fall victim to the lack of parental awareness about the importance of premarital testing. Mr. Al-Khayati highlighted the heavy burden the society bears despite the challenging circumstances it faces, calling on generous individuals to extend their support so the society can continue providing the best possible care to all children affected by thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders. He also thanked those involved in organizing the campaign and urged all attendees to prioritize premarital testing as a fundamental step before marriage, to avoid repeating past mistakes and to ensure the health of future generations.
Dr. Abdulghani Hameed, Vice President of the University of Science and Technology, also delivered a speech thanking all society workers for their dedicated efforts in serving patients. He urged everyone to support the society’s call for legislation mandating medical testing before marriage contracts are finalized. Dr. Hameed further encouraged medical faculties to conduct student awareness campaigns about the importance of premarital testing.
The children affected by thalassemia played a significant role at the event, represented by their young ambassador, Anas Nasser Abdullah. Anas shared a heartfelt speech describing his own struggles and those of other children who suffer due to parents’ lack of awareness about premarital testing.
It is worth noting that Anas has been battling his condition since birth. His visits to the society are moments of respite despite his ongoing pain. He is currently in need of a bone marrow transplant operation, a procedure his family cannot afford. The society is therefore appealing to all kind-hearted individuals to stand with this talented child and assist in covering the costs of his bone marrow transplant.
The event was also attended by Mr. Abdullah Al-Jad’ei, Head of the Society’s Public Relations and Media Department, and the media officer Mr. Saif Al-Faqih.
