In Commemoration of World Thalassemia Day – May 8
Under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Public Health and Population, Prof. Dr. Taha Ahmed Al-Mutawakkil, and under the supervision of the Offices of Public Health and Population and Social Affairs and Labor in the Capital Secretariat – Sana’a, and under the slogan: “Towards Comprehensive Care and Total Prevention”, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders, in coordination with the National Center for Blood Transfusion and Research, marked this occasion on Monday, 18 Shawwal 1444 AH, corresponding to May 8, 2023, with a voluntary blood donation campaign in support of thalassemia and genetic blood disorder patients, as well as other patients in need of blood and its components.
On a separate note, an entertainment event and an open day were held for the children, which included various fun activities. The event had a profoundly positive impact in bringing smiles and joy to the faces of the children and their families in attendance, despite some of the children needing blood transfusions on that very day.
On this occasion, the Society extends its heartfelt congratulations to all patients across our nation, encouraging them to adopt a positive outlook and live in harmony with their condition. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to remaining loyal to our mission, as we tirelessly strive to achieve comprehensive care and effective prevention.
We also call upon our beloved Yemeni community at large and all relevant authorities in particular to engage with the patients’ struggles, respond to their needs, enhance healthcare services, and ensure the availability of safe blood—because it is through your generous contributions that they continue to live. We hope all concerned parties will intensify efforts aimed at preventing these chronic disorders.
Finally, we express our sincere gratitude to the Society’s dedicated humanitarian team, as well as the official representatives and media outlets that took part in commemorating this occasion and in championing this national and humanitarian cause.
