On Thursday, October 3, 2019, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders participated in an awareness event organized by the Dar Al-Salaam Institute for Health Sciences. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders and the best ways to prevent them.
The event included a variety of artistic and educational segments. During the program, Mr. Abdulghani Al-Jillah, Media Officer of the Society, delivered a speech in which he expressed deep gratitude to the organizers and encouraged them to continue such efforts that contribute to educating the community about these chronic diseases. He added, “Despite our limited resources, the Society is striving to reach all segments of the population — particularly the youth — to raise awareness about the risks of these hereditary conditions.”
The event also featured a touching speech by young patient Anas Nasser, who shared the pain and suffering experienced by those living with these disorders. He called on businesspeople and benefactors to extend their support and stand with this vulnerable group.
In a related event, the Society also participated in a charitable awareness session held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, organized by the Canadian Center for Training and Capacity Development. The goal was again to highlight the risks of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders and promote preventive measures.
During the event, Mr. Abdullah Al-Jaadhi, Head of the Media and Public Relations Department at the Society, gave an educational lecture stressing the importance of early medical screening (especially premarital testing) as the most effective and reliable means of prevention.
Ms. Najat Al-Wajrah, Deputy Director of the Center, emphasized the necessity for collective efforts to confront these diseases, stating that the safety of future generations depends on unified action against these silent yet devastating conditions.
The program also included a heartfelt address by young patient Ahmed Al-Absi, who shared his personal battle with the disease, representing the voices of all those afflicted. He urged everyone to acknowledge their pain and support them both morally and materially, expressing gratitude to the institute and all those involved in organizing the event.
