Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Center for the Care of Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Patients, participated in an awareness event held on the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the International College of Health Sciences and Technology.
In his speech, Dr. Ismail expressed his sincere gratitude to the college administration, faculty members, and students for their dedication to supporting this important awareness initiative aimed at combating chronic hereditary diseases. He highlighted the efforts made by the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia Patients over the past twenty years, noting the significant burden the Society has borne in fighting these diseases.
Dr. Ismail emphasized that eradicating thalassemia and sickle cell anemia requires substantial efforts and genuine commitment from the state, along with cooperation from all relevant government bodies, including the Ministries of Health, Justice, Endowments, Education and Higher Education, Technical and Vocational Training, Social Affairs, Youth and Sports, as well as local and international organizations operating in Yemen, business leaders, and all segments of society.
He also underscored the critical importance of early premarital screening, especially urging young men and women to take this preventive measure seriously, given that women often bear the greater burden when children are affected by these chronic conditions.
The event included several impactful speeches and presentations that were warmly received by attendees, as well as a charity bazaar. The occasion was marked by excellent organization and a remarkable turnout, particularly among youth, whose attentive and engaged participation reflected their serious response to one of the most important humanitarian and national issues facing the country.
