Regarding the Depletion of Essential Medications for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorder Patients
The Yemen Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders announces the depletion of essential medications from treatment centers, posing a severe threat to the lives of thousands of patients.
These patients rely on iron chelators, regular blood transfusions, medical solutions, supplies, and periodic check-ups to maintain their health stability and prevent serious complications. The interruption of these medications may lead to the breakdown of treatment programs, the postponement of necessary doses, and expose patients to significant relapses, doubling the psychological and financial suffering of their families.
As the Society sounds the alarm, it emphasizes that the continuation of this shortage foretells a true health and humanitarian catastrophe. We call for urgent and immediate intervention from the competent governmental authorities, international and humanitarian organizations, and the private sector to provide essential medicines and medical supplies in an urgent and sustainable manner.
We also appeal to the media and all active members of society to highlight this important humanitarian issue and contribute to supporting efforts to provide the necessary treatment and healthcare. Their medications are not a postponed option, but a vital necessity that cannot tolerate delay.
We, at the Society, reaffirm that the patients’ right to treatment is a fundamental human right, and that saving their lives is a shared responsibility that requires combined efforts and collective action.
