On the occasion of International Thalassemia Day (May 8th), the Yemen Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders (YSTH) organized an entertainment event today, Monday, May 11, 2026 (24 Dhu al-Qi’dah 1447 AH), for the heroes battling Thalassemia and genetic blood disorders. The event also featured a voluntary blood donation campaign, held in coordination and cooperation with the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center, with broad participation from numerous volunteers. This initiative is part of the Society’s ongoing efforts to support patients and raise community awareness regarding the vital importance of voluntary blood donation and premarital screening.
The event was filled with a compassionate and interactive atmosphere, aiming to bring joy and happiness to the young patients and their families through various recreational activities. Parallel to these activities, the blood donation campaign sought to secure the necessary blood units for patients, as blood remains the essential lifeline for those living with Thalassemia.
YSTH emphasized that this event aligns with its humanitarian mission to highlight the suffering of Thalassemia patients. It also serves as a call to instill a culture of voluntary blood donation as a shared social and humanitarian responsibility, crucial for saving the lives of thousands of patients who require regular blood transfusions.
The Society expressed its deep appreciation for all the efforts that contributed to the success of the event—including donors, volunteers, and supporters—reaffirming its commitment to continuing programs and activities that serve patients with Thalassemia and genetic blood disorders and help alleviate their suffering.
