The Midwifery Department at the National University College for Health Sciences organized an awareness event today, Monday, Rabi’ al-Akhir 24, 1448 AH, corresponding to October 5, 2026, regarding Thalassemia and genetic blood disorders, with the aim of raising awareness about these diseases.
The event featured a speech by the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdullah Musallam, and a speech by Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Therapeutic Center at the Yemen Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders (YSTH). Additionally, several awareness segments were presented to introduce genetic blood disorders, their causes, and their risks, along with the health and humanitarian burdens they impose on patients and their families. The event also emphasized the importance of assisting patients and strengthening the community’s role in supporting and standing by them.
At the conclusion of the event, the Society was honored in recognition of its efforts in health awareness, education, and serving patients with Thalassemia and genetic blood disorders. This gesture reflects the College’s appreciation for the vital role the Society plays in supporting patients and spreading community awareness.
The management of the Yemen Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to the administration of the National University College for Health Sciences, the Midwifery Department, the organizers, and the attendees, commending this initiative and the awareness and attention it reflects regarding this cause.
Furthermore, the Society’s management affirmed that spreading awareness and prevention is a shared responsibility. They noted that a simple medical test and consultation prior to marriage can contribute to protecting a family from the suffering of a genetic disease, while supporting and standing by patients remains an essential humanitarian and societal duty.
