Health and environmental awareness supervisors in four educational districts of the Capital Secretariat organized awareness programs highlighting the risks of thalassemia and ways to prevent it.
The awareness activities were conducted in four schools in the Second Al-Sabeen District—Abdul Latif Al-Hamad School, Zayd Ibn Haritha School, Juwayriya Bint Al-Harith School, and Al-Naba’ School—as well as in Al-Salam School (Ma’een District), Saba’ School (Al-Thawrah District), and Al-Shaymaa School (Old Sana’a).
The programs included distributing informational brochures and delivering lectures, in addition to dedicating health and leadership class sessions to educate students about the importance of premarital medical checkups and counseling in preventing these chronic hereditary diseases.
These initiatives are the first results of the training workshop organized by the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders for 70 educators from six educational districts: Ma’een, Al-Thawrah, Shu’ub, First Al-Sabeen, Second Al-Sabeen, and Old Sana’a.
The Society, in collaboration with the Capital Secretariat’s Education Office, held the workshop last week to train school health and environmental awareness supervisors and educational section heads on the dangers of thalassemia to the future of children.
The workshop aimed to activate the pivotal role of educators in building a generation aware of the risks of chronic hereditary diseases, particularly genetic blood disorders.
