The Yemen Society for Thalassemia & Genetic Blood Disorders participated on Saturday, 15 Jumada Al-Akhirah 1447 AH, corresponding to December 6, 2025, in an awareness lecture dedicated to legal marriage registrars, as part of joint efforts with the Ministry of Justice to promote awareness about the importance of premarital screening and its role in reducing the spread of hereditary blood disorders.
The lecture covered an overview of thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, their symptoms, and their health and social impacts. It also highlighted the importance of premarital medical testing for couples, as it is a key preventive measure that helps shield future families from hereditary risks and contributes to building a healthier and more stable society.
During their participation, the Society’s education team showcased its community awareness efforts, emphasizing that marriage registrars play a pivotal role in promoting a culture of early screening through guidance and counseling when issuing marriage contracts — a contribution that helps protect future generations.
This participation comes as part of a series of programs carried out by the Society in cooperation with official entities to promote a culture of prevention and reduce the health and social burdens resulting from hereditary blood disorders.
