The Fifth Awareness Festival on Thalassemia, Hereditary Blood Disorders, Cancer, and Malaria Held at University of Science and Technology
On Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the Student Affairs Department at the University of Science and Technology, in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, organized the fifth awareness festival addressing thalassemia, hereditary blood disorders, cancer, and malaria.
The festival featured lecturers from the Malaria Control Program at the Ministry of Health and the Hayat Center for Breast Cancer Control. Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Center for the Care of Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Patients, delivered a speech highlighting the Society’s journey and main objectives, including patient care, protecting children from the risk of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders, efforts to secure necessary medications, comprehensive care, and provision of safe blood for patients.
Dr. Ismail also praised the university’s diligent efforts to raise awareness of hereditary blood diseases and other prevalent health issues in the community, noting that the university’s annual organization of this event reflects its commitment to societal concerns and contributions towards resolving health problems. The event was attended by a number of doctors, specialists, and students.
Additionally, student Ibrahim Al-Silmi presented an awareness lecture on thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders, covering their transmission to offspring, symptoms, complications, and prevention methods. Mr. Faez Al-Basir, Student Affairs Specialist at the university, called for continuous and steadfast support for patients from these afflicted groups, emphasizing the importance of providing them with care, encouragement, and comprehensive support.
