Workshop Sponsored by Bonyan Development Foundation Trains 70 Educators on Thalassemia Risks and Childhood Prevention
The Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders held an awareness workshop focusing on the risks of thalassemia and methods of prevention to protect children’s future.
Organized in coordination with the Directorate of Education in Amanat Al-Asimah and under the sponsorship of Bonyan Development Foundation, the workshop trained seventy educators, including school health and environment supervisors and department heads from six educational districts in Amanat Al-Asimah: Shoab, Al-Thawra, Maeen, First Al-Sabeen, Second Al-Sabeen, and Old Sana’a.
The workshop aims to empower educators and health supervisors to raise awareness about the dangers of thalassemia across all schools in Amanat Al-Asimah.
Four working papers were presented during the workshop:
- The first paper, presented by Dr. Rasha Al-Noud, addressed the health aspects of the disease, including its emergence, spread, symptoms, types of hereditary blood disorders, complications, and essential treatments and tests for patients.
- The second paper, delivered by Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, focused on the society’s awareness activities and programs, highlighting key milestones in the establishment of the society and the Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders Care Center.
- The third paper, presented by Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim, covered the social and psychological impact of the disease on patients and their families, detailing various effects and challenges.
- The fourth and final paper, given by Ms. Najwa Qunba’, explained the role of the Guidance and Education Department at the Directorate of Education in raising awareness about the disease’s risks and safeguarding children’s futures.
This workshop is part of the society’s ongoing commitment to increase awareness and prevention efforts against thalassemia and hereditary blood diseases to ensure healthier futures for children.
