The Yemeni Society for Thalassemia Launches Its 11th Annual Awareness Campaign Under the Patronage of Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Group
With the generous sponsorship of Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed Group and in collaboration with the Capital Secretariat Office of Education, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders officially launched its 11th Annual Awareness Campaign this morning in Sana’a. The campaign, which runs from March 5 to April 31, 2018, aims to raise awareness about the dangers of thalassemia and other hereditary blood disorders, as well as promote prevention through premarital screening.
The campaign’s opening event was held at Salem Al-Sabah Secondary School for Girls under the theme “So That Mothers Don’t Suffer”, in conjunction with Mother’s Day celebrations on March 21.
The event featured a variety of artistic, educational, and cultural segments. During his speech, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders Care Center, reaffirmed the Society’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness and educating the public about these chronic diseases.
Dr. Ismail urged students to undergo premarital testing and genetic counseling, emphasizing that mothers are often the ones who bear the emotional and physical burden of a child with thalassemia.
From her side, Ms. Najwa Ahmed Qanbaa, Director of the Health and Environmental Awareness Department at the Capital Secretariat Office of Education, commended the Society’s dedicated efforts in combatting thalassemia and promoting prevention through community outreach.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Ismail, alongside Mr. Saleh Al-Asimi (Head of Follow-Up and Administrative Board Member) and Mr. Abdullah Al-Jada’i (Public Relations Officer), honored Ms. Najat Al-Najjar, Principal of Salem Al-Sabah School, Ms. Arwa Salam, Activity Coordinator, as well as a number of faculty members and the Basmat Amal Student Group, in recognition of their contributions to the event’s success.
The awareness campaign targets high school and university students across several educational districts in the Capital Secretariat, including Ma’een, Shu’ub, Al-Thawra, and Al-Sabeen (First and Second).
