The Yemeni Association for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders in the Capital Secretariat of Sana’a concluded an awareness workshop attended by 200 notaries, legal trustees, and media professionals under the slogan “We Are All Responsible for Protecting Future Generations.” The workshop was organized in coordination and cooperation with the Documentation Sector at the Ministry of Justice, under the generous patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Justice, Judge Nabil Al-Azzani, and His Excellency the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Taha Al-Mutawakkil, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, during the period from 17 to 20 Jumada al-Awwal 1444 AH / 11 to 14 December 2022.
The workshop aimed to educate participants about the risks, complications, and prevention methods of thalassemia and hereditary hemolytic anemia. All attendees emphasized the urgent need for joint community and official efforts to reduce the spread of these chronic diseases by raising awareness among the public and prospective couples about the importance of early screening and medical consultation prior to marriage.
The workshop, held at the Ministry of Justice, also included a visit to the Treatment Center for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, where participants gained firsthand insight into the patients’ suffering and their ongoing need for medications, blood, medical care, social support, and psychological services provided by the center.
