The Yemen Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders welcomed fourth-year Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics students from the National University on a scientific visit to the Society’s Treatment Center. The visit aimed to familiarize students with the nature of medical and humanitarian services provided to thalassemia and genetic blood disorder patients, while enhancing awareness of the importance of healthcare and humanitarian work.
During the visit, the students took an introductory tour across the Treatment Center’s various departments, learning about the workflow, the services provided by the Society, and the ongoing challenges and needs faced by patients.
The students also attended an awareness lecture covering the definition of thalassemia and genetic blood disorders, their causes, prevention methods, and the critical importance of premarital screening, alongside the Society’s role in providing medical, psychological, and social care to patients.
Officials at the Society praised the visit, stressing the importance of strengthening partnerships with academic institutions and offering students opportunities for field exposure that build humanitarian and professional sense while embedding a culture of social responsibility among youth.
