On Saturday, February 15, 2020, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia Patients welcomed a group of students from the Laboratory Department at Al-Jazeera College of Medical and Technical Sciences. The students were introduced to the various departments of the Center for the Care of Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Patients, and to the services provided throughout the year.
Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati, General Director of the Society, stated that some countries have successfully eliminated new cases of hereditary blood disorders through the consistent implementation of early premarital screening. He expressed his sincere gratitude to all those who take this simple yet vital medical step, as it plays a key role in protecting future generations.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Jad’ei, Head of the Society’s Public Relations and Media Department, delivered an awareness lecture on thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders. The lecture included definitions, causes, manifestations, impacts, and prevention methods. He emphasized the importance of early premarital screening as the most effective and essential preventive measure against these chronic diseases.
Ms. Rabab Tawfiq, Social Affairs Specialist at the Society, also stressed the need for society to support awareness efforts made by the Society’s team. She highlighted the importance of raising health awareness among all family members and of standing in solidarity with those affected by these conditions.
