On the morning of Wednesday, December 9, 2020, a awareness event about the dangers of thalassemia and hereditary hemolytic anemias and ways to prevent them was held at the College of Languages, University of Sana’a. The event was organized in cooperation with the university presidency and the University Student Forum.
During the event, which included several segments, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders Care Center, delivered an awareness speech. He began by introducing the disease, its causes, modes of transmission, and prevention methods, emphasizing that premarital screening is the only way to avoid contracting these chronic diseases. He also warned the attending students against entering into marriage without undergoing this important medical test due to its critical role in life.
Dr. Mukhtar expressed his sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all attendees for their interest and eagerness to benefit, especially Ms. Amina Al-Thalaya, who recited a prose poem narrating her patience and efforts to overcome the hardships of living with thalassemia alongside vision loss.
Ms. Amina played a central role in organizing the event despite many obstacles surrounding her, standing as an exemplary symbol of ambition, patience, and perseverance. Everyone wishes her a promising future filled with giving, achievements, and continuous successes, God willing.
