The Association Appeals to Local and International Organizations to Save Thousands of Thalassemia Patients
The Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders has issued an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Public Health and Population and all local and international health organizations to take immediate action to save the lives of thousands of patients suffering from thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders.
In an official statement, the association expressed growing concern over the worsening health conditions of patients, particularly with the potential shutdown of the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center due to a critical shortage of blood supplies and testing reagents, as well as a decline in blood donors.
The society has urgently called on the Ministry of Health and all humanitarian actors to step in and rescue the lives of patients who rely entirely on donor blood for survival.
It also called on all segments of society, especially youth-led initiatives, to contribute by donating blood and raising awareness about the issue.
In a statement, the association’s Executive Director Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati praised the vital role of the National Blood Transfusion Center, describing it as the only lifeline for thalassemia patients.
Al-Khayati warned that the suspension of the center’s operations could lead to a major humanitarian catastrophe affecting thousands of patients across the country.
