The Association Organizes Awareness Event on Thalassemia Risks at the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences
On Saturday, August 12, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, in collaboration with the National Higher Institute of Medical Sciences, organized an awareness event on the risks of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders and methods of prevention.
Held under the theme “Their Health… A Nation’s Well-being”, the event featured various educational and artistic segments. Speaking at the event, Dr. Rasha Al-Noud, a researcher and volunteer at the Thalassemia Care Center, stressed the importance of holding such awareness programs in universities and institutes, especially among youth preparing for marriage, as they make up the largest segment of society. She emphasized the vital role of premarital screening in reducing new cases of thalassemia.
For her part, Ms. Hanadi Al-Sanawi, a member of the association’s awareness team, highlighted the success of the event, praising the positive interaction and enthusiasm shown by the students toward thalassemia awareness and their eagerness to undergo premarital screening.
The event, attended by a number of the institute’s professors and students, also featured a charity food fair, with proceeds going to support patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders.
