Sickle Cell Patients Celebrate Their World Day with Participation of Prominent Stars from Art and Drama
On the evening of Wednesday, June 19, 2017, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders held a formal and artistic celebration marking the World Sickle Cell Disease Day at Al-Nokhba Hall, Al-Khatib Restaurants, Sana’a.
Under the slogan “Ramadan… Brings Us Closer”, and in the presence of Her Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Ms. Faiqa Al-Sayyid, Director General of the Secretariat’s Social Affairs Office, Mr. Mujib Al-Fatash, along with a number of media professionals and actors, the Executive Director, Mr. Jameel Al-Khayati, praised the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor for its commitment to supporting patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders.
During his speech, the Executive Director commended the continuous cooperation between the Ministry, its Secretariat Office in the Capital, and the Society.
Mr. Al-Khayati also expressed gratitude to Yemen Mobile, the main sponsor of the event, for their ongoing support of the Society’s humanitarian and awareness activities.
He emphasized that the aim of organizing such an event is to integrate patients with sickle cell anemia and hereditary blood disorders into the most important segments of society.
He added that the holy month of Ramadan presents an opportunity to reach out to this vulnerable group, providing them with psychological and material support, and reassuring them that they are not alone in facing the hardships of life.
Her Excellency the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor called on patients with sickle cell anemia and other hereditary blood disorders to continue showing patience and determination, urging them not to succumb to despair or surrender to the disease.
The Minister highlighted the many successful individuals in society who suffer from similar chronic illnesses, affirming her continued support for these patients.
The event concluded with the Society’s President, Dr. Ahmed Shamsan, honoring Her Excellency the Minister, several participating entities, and the event sponsors, including Yemen Mobile and Al-Khatib Restaurants.
The celebration featured various artistic and educational segments, as well as medical guidance presented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayyar, physician at the Thalassemia Center.
It also included an Iftar banquet titled “The Recovery Table”, bringing together patients and a distinguished group of media, art, and drama stars at one table to provide psychological support.
