Secretary-General of the Society: Continuous Increase in Patient Numbers, We Need Official and Community Support
In an interview with Al-Eman Satellite Channel, the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Diseases, Mr. Mohsen Mohammed Al-Nuwaira, emphasized the society’s urgent need for a specialized center dedicated to patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders.
Al-Nuwaira highlighted during the interview that the number of patients is continuously rising, and the society requires both official and community support to fulfill its humanitarian duties.
He praised the role of the Ministry of Health, represented by former Minister Dr. Ahmed Qasim Al-Ansi, for supporting the society and standing by the patients.
The Secretary-General also commended the current Minister of Health, Dr. Riyadh Yaseen Abdullah, for championing the premarital screening law project and working to make it a key outcome of the National Dialogue, congratulating him on winning the confidence of the government.
On Wednesday evening, Al-Eman Satellite Channel visited the society’s headquarters, meeting with the Secretary-General, many families of patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood diseases, the diagnostic clinic’s physician Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayyar, and several nurses.
Meanwhile, the society’s Executive Director, Mr. Jamil Ali Al-Khayati, expressed gratitude to Al-Eman Satellite Channel for its continued support in promoting the patients’ cause and raising awareness of their humanitarian issues.
Al-Khayati called on various media outlets to cooperate with the society in raising public awareness about the risks of these chronic diseases, emphasizing their importance as equal to other national issues.
He also urged the media to mobilize society to save the lives of hundreds of patients who depend on blood donations and whose lives are at risk due to the ongoing donor shortage crisis.
