Deputy Governor Announces Allocation of Land for Medical City Including a Center for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Anemia Care
Dr. Al-Hassan Al-Tahir, Deputy Governor of Al-Hudaydah, announced the allocation of a plot of land within the Medical City to establish a specialized center for the care of patients with thalassemia and sickle cell anemia in the governorate.
During his speech at the first annual celebration of sickle cell anemia in the governorate, Dr. Al-Tahir emphasized that the consolidation and coordination of efforts reduce the risks associated with these chronic diseases.
The event, held under the patronage of the former Governor of Al-Hudaydah, Mr. Sakhr Al-Wajih, saw Dr. Najib Malhi, Head of the Society’s branch in Al-Hudaydah, confirm the continuous increase in the number of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorder patients in the governorate. He stated that more than 1,000 patients are registered in the branch’s records, with nearly 10,000 cases distributed across the districts of Zabid, Bayt Al-Faqih, Lahjiya, Al-Zaidiyah, and Al-Salkhana.
Dr. Abdul Rahman Jarallah, Director General of the Al-Hudaydah Health Office, explained that the office has directed all government hospitals to provide free medical services to thalassemia patients and has coordinated with private hospitals to reduce medical service fees for these patients by 50%.
In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Shamsan Al-Maqrami, President of the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia Patients, reviewed the key stages the society has gone through, highlighting the main challenges faced during its establishment.
Dr. Al-Maqrami confirmed that the number of patients registered at the society’s main center exceeds 3,500, with one-third originating from Al-Hudaydah governorate.
The event was attended by the Society’s Secretary-General, Mr. Mohsen Mohammed Al-Nuwaira, the Branches Officer, Mr. Ali Abdulwali, and several society staff members.
