Awareness Day
On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, Mr. Jameel Al-Khayati, Director General of the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, welcomed students from Dar Al-Salam Institute of Health Sciences at the Society’s headquarters. The visit aimed to introduce the students to the Society and the humanitarian services it provides to patients.
During the visit, the students toured the Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Care Center facilities and participated in an informative seminar. The seminar covered the nature of the disease, its risks, and preventive measures.
The students expressed their willingness to join the “Friends of Thalassemia Patients” team and committed to organizing awareness campaigns about the disease’s dangers, which pose a significant burden on the parents of affected children.
It is worth noting that the number of patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders continues to rise day by day. Their health is progressively deteriorating due to frequent disease relapses exacerbated by the lack of access to essential medications. Patients endure both the agony of their illness and the hardship caused by medication shortages.
