The Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders marked a modest celebration on the occasion of its annual founding anniversary, which falls on April 15th. Under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Shamsan Al-Maqrami, the Society’s President, employees of the Society and the Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders Care Center were honored in recognition of their distinguished humanitarian efforts and dedicated service to patients suffering from thalassemia and hereditary hemolytic anemia.
This 2020 commemoration took place under the exceptional circumstances caused by the widespread COVID-19 pandemic affecting most countries worldwide. Consequently, the Society’s administrative board decided to hold a symbolic event in strict adherence to necessary precautions and safety measures to avoid excessive gatherings and potential health risks.
The Society’s President expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to all supporting parties, including businessmen and philanthropists, who regularly contribute essential medicines and medical supplies to assist patients. He also extended thanks to the administrative board members and staff for their invaluable contributions and tireless dedication to this vulnerable community, emphasizing that they deserve every recognition and support. He expressed hope that all involved would continue with the same commitment—if not more—to advance the Society’s humanitarian mission that has now spanned two decades.
Meanwhile, the Society’s General Director, Mr. Jamil Ali Al-Khayati, highlighted that the success of the Society is not attributed to any single individual but to the dedication and perseverance of all its committed personnel. He extended special thanks to the Society’s President, Dr. Ahmed Shamsan, describing him as a vital pillar of success and praising the trust he has placed in the team’s work.
Mr. Al-Khayati further explained that the Society’s founding in the year 2000 was a response to the profound challenges faced by many patients and their families, especially in finding safe blood donations. The concerns of parents, alongside the efforts of committed doctors and volunteers at that time, led to the establishment of the Society. Today, it stands as one of the leading humanitarian institutions in Yemeni society, thanks to God first and foremost, then to the dedicated and qualified team working quietly with sincere dedication for the sake of children and patients. Additionally, the Society benefits from the support of many local entities and compassionate businessmen who have embraced this critical social cause with generosity and humanity.
