On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, Al-Saeedah University, in collaboration with the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, organized an awareness seminar to educate about the risks of thalassemia, hereditary blood disorders, and methods of prevention.
Representing the Society, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Center for the Care of Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Patients, delivered an informative lecture. He covered the disease’s definition, causes of its spread, symptoms, effects, and preventive measures, highlighting that early premarital screening is the most effective and primary method to prevent these chronic diseases. Dr. Ismail added, “We thank the university for providing us with this opportunity to raise awareness among our students, who will in turn help disseminate this knowledge to others.”
The seminar was attended by Dr. Nabil Al-Maghrabi, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, who emphasized that holding such seminars and awareness activities is a top priority for the university, as they contribute to educating the community’s youth. The event also saw participation from numerous doctors, academics, students, and guests.
