A group of students from the National University visited the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia Patients and the Hereditary Blood Disorders Care Center in Sana’a, accompanied by Dr. Osama Dabwan, the university’s Academic Affairs Officer, and Mr. Abdul Quddus Al-Katib, Director of Public Relations.
They were welcomed by the Society’s Director, Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, the Center’s Director, and Ms. Rabab Tawfiq, responsible for blood transfusion services. The students were introduced to the center’s departments and the free services it provides to patients.
Dr. Mukhtar Ismail delivered an awareness lecture that included important information about the disease, focusing on prevention methods that protect families and communities from new cases.
This educational visit was highly successful, as the students actively engaged, expressed deep empathy for the patients’ suffering, and showed readiness to contribute to combating these chronic diseases and raising awareness about their risks. Dr. Osama urged all attending students to act as ambassadors for the Society through their awareness efforts in the community. Mr. Abdul Quddus confirmed that awareness campaigns will be held across all university departments, along with a blood donation campaign, emphasizing that this is the least they can do to support this afflicted group.
