On Saturday and Sunday, December 21-22, 2019, the UAE International University and 21 September University for Medical and Applied Sciences, in coordination and cooperation with the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, organized awareness programs to educate about thalassemia, hereditary blood disorders, and prevention methods.
During the program, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Center for the Care of Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorder Patients, delivered a speech reviewing the Society’s ongoing efforts in combating chronic hereditary diseases despite the scarcity of necessary resources and the challenges in securing them. He emphasized the importance of paying attention to the afflicted individuals and supporting them.
Dr. Ahmed Shamsan Al-Maqrami, President of the Society, also contributed a scientific awareness paper at the joint scientific symposium held at 21 September University, addressing chronic hereditary diseases that deeply affect patients and their families. He called on everyone to participate in spreading awareness and education about the importance of early premarital medical screening, as it is the most effective and suitable method to protect future generations from the risks of these deadly diseases.
Several other related research papers were presented, with attendance by the university president, Prof. Dr. Mujahid Ma’sar, along with many doctors and medical students.
Prof. Dr. Hassan Abdulmagni, Vice President of UAE International University, stressed the need to organize more awareness events in the future.
