On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, the National University, in coordination and cooperation with the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders, organized an awareness campaign to educate students about the dangers of thalassemia and other inherited blood disorders, as well as methods of prevention.
During the campaign, Dr. Mukhtar Ismail, Director of the Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Disorders Care Center, delivered an informative speech in which he addressed the suffering of patients living with these chronic conditions. He emphasized the dangers of entering into marriage without undergoing early premarital medical testing and stressed the importance of moral, psychological, and material support for those affected. Dr. Ismail urged all students to become well-informed about these diseases and to guide their families and peers to help prevent thalassemia and other blood disorders through early testing before marriage.
Under the slogan “A Drop of Blood Saves a Life”, the National University, in cooperation with the Society and the National Center for Blood Transfusion and Research, held a voluntary blood donation campaign on Thursday, November 18, 2021, in front of the university gate. The campaign was attended by Dr. Adnan Al-Hakimi, Technical Director of the National Center for Blood Transfusion, along with several members of the center’s team, as well as Mr. Jameel Ali Al-Khayati, Director General of the Society, and Mr. Ali Abdul Wali, Head of Public Relations.
Mr. Al-Khayati praised the efforts of the university and the center in providing blood units to patients and expressed hope that this humanitarian culture would spread across various segments of society to help save the lives of those in need of blood donations.
