On June 27, 2019, and coinciding with World Sickle Cell Anemia Day on June 19, under the slogan “Blood Donation is a Life Saver,” and sponsored by the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center, the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders, in cooperation with Al-Zahrawi Institute for Medical Training and Rehabilitation, launched a blood donation campaign in support of patients with thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders. The campaign received a strong turnout from generous donors.
This donation campaign followed an awareness initiative conducted by the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Hereditary Blood Disorders for the students of Al-Zahrawi Institute on June 25, 2019. During the event, Mr. Abdullah Al-Jad’i, Head of Public Relations and Media at the Society, delivered an informative lecture about the dangers of thalassemia, ways to prevent it, and the vital importance of blood donation.
In a statement, Dr. Adnan Al-Hakimi, Technical Director of the National Blood Transfusion and Research Center, emphasized the necessity of contributing to and participating in such campaigns, noting the increasing demand for blood, particularly as the Center supplies patients with cancer, thalassemia, hereditary blood disorders, and others.
Dr. Dhikra Abdullah Saif, Dean of Al-Zahrawi Institute, welcomed the campaign, expressing hope that it would help alleviate the suffering of this afflicted group. She wished success to all involved in this noble humanitarian effort. Mr. Abdullah Al-Jad’i received a certificate of thanks and appreciation from Al-Zahrawi Institute for Medical Training and Rehabilitation.
